Year-by-year breakdown

About the SIP + SWP Calculator

Plan both halves of your money journey on one page: build a corpus with a monthly SIP, then draw a monthly income from it through an SWP. You can set a different expected return for each phase and raise withdrawals every year for inflation.

How to use this calculator

  1. Enter your monthly SIP, how many years you will invest and the expected return while investing.
  2. Enter the monthly withdrawal you want afterwards, how many years it should last and the expected return during withdrawals.
  3. Add a yearly increase to the withdrawal to allow for inflation.
  4. Check the corpus at the start of the SWP and whether it lasts.

Formula

Phase 1 uses the SIP formula to find the corpus. Phase 2 starts from that corpus and, each month, adds growth and subtracts the withdrawal, raising the withdrawal once a year.

Example

Investing ₹25,000 a month for 20 years at an assumed 12% builds about ₹2.50 crore. Withdrawing ₹60,000 a month, rising 5% a year, at an assumed 8% pays out about ₹3.44 crore over 25 years.

Frequently asked questions

Why use a lower return for the withdrawal phase?

Many people move to lower-risk investments as they start drawing income, which usually means a lower expected return.

Can this be used for retirement planning?

Yes. It is a simple way to see whether your SIP can fund a planned retirement income. The Retirement calculator works the other way round, from expenses to the SIP needed.
